Micah
6:8 asks the question, “what does the Lord require of you?” to which the
response is “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your
God.”
The idea
behind this project was first conceived at the Canada & Bermuda Territory’s
National Music Camp in the summer of 2008. During one of our small group
discussions, I was personally challenged to find a way to use the gifts and
talents that God had given me to do what He requires of me, specifically to
act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. I knew that God had given
me a passion for music, a passion that I was eager to feed and develop, but
the challenge I had was to find a way to use my musical passion and skill
for His purposes. I have found that it is very difficult to be both a
Christian and a musician. This may seem like a ridiculous statement
considering the number of Christian musicians; however I personally find it
a challenge because when I devote so much time to developing a skill, it is
hard to not be the one to receive the glory. During this particular small
group session, I started praying and searching for a way to make sure that I
am giving God the glory when I exercise the gifts and talents He has given
me, and also using these gifts and talents for the betterment of His
Kingdom. It wasn’t long before God revealed to me how He could use me in
this way. This recording, one where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to
the work of the Salvation Army, is the fruit of those prayers.
I have
decided not to choose a specific ministry of the Salvation Army to donate
100% of the funds to, because I do not want to be limited in this regard.
Through this recording, I hope to support all facets of Salvation Army
ministry, and I want my monetary support to be as wide-spread as it can.
There are
so many people who have supported me through this project, and I am not
going to list individuals by name, because I am bound to leave some out. In
general, I want to thank all of the people who have filled a leadership role
in my life, both past and present, because it is them who have helped to
shape who I am. I also want to thank my friends, family, and my church
family at Northridge Community Church of the Salvation Army. I want to thank
everybody who played a role in the making of this specific project, from all
the musicians, to Ken Leach and Ray Varkki who took care of the visual
aspects, and Rob DeVito who recorded, edited, mixed, and mastered
everything. It’s my pleasure to individually recognize Doug Chaulk who is
the mastermind behind everything involved in the entire project. His
leadership, musicianship, organization, and patience cannot be matched in my
eyes. None of this could have happened without the support of my parents,
who have spoken God’s word into me since I was born, and believe in the
power of this project just as much as I do. Lastly, I want to thank you for
purchasing a copy of this recording. Every penny of the money that you have
paid to receive this recording will support the work of the Salvation Army,
so I thank you for your desire to help to further God’s Kingdom. To God be
the glory!
In
Christ,
